Next year's British International Motor Show (BIMS) has been cancelled due to the economic downturn.
The event, which is usually held every two years, had been scheduled to take place at the ExCeL exhibition centre in east London's redeveloped dockland area.
In a statement, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said the decision to cancel the event had been a difficult one.
"The economic downturn and the unprecedented challenges facing the industry both in the UK and around the world have made it impossible for exhibitors to commit to a 2010 event," the SMMT's chief executive, Paul Everitt, commented.
A number of companies recently decided to reduce their participation or skip January's car show in Detroit, the largest event of its kind in North America.
Meanwhile, the number of manufacturers exhibiting at this year's Tokyo Motor Show has almost halved as companies cut their marketing budgets.
