Arrest warrant issued for absconding director

Construction

17th February 2009

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the director of a scaffolding firm who fled the country following an accident in Milton Keynes.

John David King faced prosecution over alleged breaches of health and safety legislation after NNM Scaffolding, the company he worked for, pleaded guilty in court.

Charges against Mr King have been placed indefinitely and he will not be able to apply for bail should he return to the UK, reports Building.

The prosecution arose after John Robinson, a construction worker, was killed in 2006 when an independent tied scaffolding perimeter collapsed at the Milton Keynes site.

A further two workers sustained multiple injuries as a result of the accident.

Recently, the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) in the UK published new guidlines for the erection of scaffolding.

The NASC said it hopes all of its members will have implemented the new guidelines by the end of 2010.
