Domiciliary care in the UK could be heading for a crisis unless changes are made soon, an MP has claimed.

Liberal Democrat health spokesman Norman Lamb said their are many problems with the way vulnerable young adults and elderly people receive health and social care in their homes.

Among the problems Mr Lamb has identified is a shortage of home carers and inadequate links between local authorities and the NHS, reports North Norfolk News.

"[The problem is] bound to get worse because we have got a rapidly ageing population, with the number of people hitting 11 dramatically increasing."

Harold Bodmer, director of adult social sciences at Norfolk county council, said he thought the situation concerning domiciliary care was improving in the area.

In related news, recent figures from the Commission for Social Care Inspection showed that standards in Norfolk's care homes have improved, according to the Norwich Evening News.
