A man from Blackburn who ran a speeding ticket scam has been jailed for 16 months at Preston Crown Court, it has been reported.

The Lancashire Telegraph reports that Abdul Musa, 48, was handed the sentence in one of the first cases of its kind in the UK.

Mr Musa was accused of helping more than 120 people avoid prosecution for speeding violations.

The court has told that he took the blame for over 120 speeding offences over a four-year period in exchange for payments of up to £200 a time.

He was sentenced along with 11 other people who took part in the scam.

Judge Pamela Badley said it was remarkable that some drivers were prepared to go to such lengths to avoid receiving points on their driving licenses.

"It goes to show that when temptation is put before someone to break the rules, they can go ahead without thinking of the consequences," she commented.
