People who are moving home have been offered some potentially helpful advice by property website Move Me.

Foremost among the top tips are to keep packing boxes out of view of potential thieves and to leave valuable items, such as jewellery, at the bank.

Reliable tradespeople who are affiliated to trade bodies and associations should always be used and movers should refrain from giving new sets of keys to people unless they really have to.

According to research by the company, more than half (58 per cent) of movers give spare sets of keys to other people such as builders, friends and cleaners.

After moving into the new property, Move Me advises people to change the codes on the burglar alarm and even consider fitting a new alarm system.

Recently, official figures revealed that domestic burglaries have risen by four per cent.ADNFCR-1854-ID-18991822-ADNFCR
