A developer from Rotherham has been fined £5,000 after pleading guilty to breaching health and safety regulations by allowing poor standards to occur on a building site.
Baz Khan was also ordered to pay court costs of £3,000 by Rotherham magistrates' court for breaching the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, reports Building.
Rob Cooper, an inspector for the Health and Safety Executive, said Mr Khan continued to act on the advice he was given.
"If he had employed professionals to manage his site he could have avoided the significant fine awarded against him today," he commented, adding: "This would have made not only good safety sense but also good business sense."
According to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, contractors must plan, manage and monitor construction work in such a way that takes into consideration health and safety.
