While the economic downturn may be giving some charities cause for concern, a new report suggests that major donors will continue to contribute to good causes.

According to the study by Philanthropy UK, some big money donors may even increase the amount they give.

Tanja Jegger, head of philanthropy at the wealth management firm Stonehage, said many donors were looking to collaborate with peers to increase their donations.

"We have on balance seen greater demand for philanthropy services this year, with a strong pipeline for 2009 in the UK, Switzerland, Israel and South Africa, which is very encouraging," she commented.

Meanwhile, Maya Prabhu of Coutts said the bank was "relatively bullish" that donations from wealthy people would continue during the economic downturn.
