27th November 2008

The death of a construction worker on a Laing O'Rourke building site is serving to highlight the importance of adequate safety measures and acquiring employers' liability insurance.

According to Building magazine, the worker - a subcontractor - was killed on November 13th at the site in Knostrop near Leeds. It is believed he died after falling from height.

It is the second fatality to occur on a building site owned by Laing O'Rourke this month following the death of a worker in an gas cylinder explosion on a development near Welwyn Garden City.

Following the incident, the company commented: "It is with regret that Laing O'Rourke confirms that an employee was killed and a further seven injured in an incident yesterday at its construction project site in Welwyn Garden City."

The police and the Health and Safety Executive are now carrying out investigations into the death.ADNFCR-1854-ID-18899747-ADNFCR
