Five food safety offences lead to fine for Chinese restaurant

A Chinese restaurant which failed to protect food against contamination has been fined after admitting the breaches.

Duc Wong admitted five offences, which included not protecting food, not implementing adequate pest control and not keeping the site clean, the Bucks Free Press reported.

Furthermore, food was kept in containers that could have led to its contamination and necessary drainage repairs were not carried out.

Mr Wong, of the Golden Palace restaurant in Church Road, Lane End, was prosecuted by the environmental health department of Wycombe District Council.

He was fined £2,000 and made to pay £500 in costs as well as an extra £15 victim surcharge.

Elsewhere, people with restaurant insurance may be keen to note the case of a the former owner of an Indian takeaway in Inverness, who has been fined £695 for not having a food safety management system as required.

The Press and Journal reports the case of Ashraf Veettil of 52 Burnside in Alness, Inverness, who pleaded guilty at Inverness Sheriff Court.
