While many UK businesses are suffering as a result of the credit crunch, the charity sector is proving to be comparably resilient, it has emerged.
According to easyfundraising.org.uk, £500,000 in donations has been raised by registered members of the money-raising website.
Becky Coleman, a spokesperson for the firm, said that asking people for money is made much more difficult due to current economic conditions.
She commented: "With Christmas just around the corner, more shoppers are turning to the web to find better deals and with 78 per cent of shoppers intending to buy presents online this year, what better way for charities and good causes to recoup dwindling donations."
Anyone hoping for a swift end to the economic downturn may be disappointed. A new report from the Confederation of British Industry suggests that the recession could last throughout 2009 and only begin recovering in 2010.
