A construction worker has been killed and seven others injured following a gas explosion in Welwyn Garden City.
The Laing O'Rourke employees were working on data centre project in the Hertfordshire city when the accident happened yesterday (November 6th), reports Building.
Liam Cummins, managing director of Crown House, a subsidiary of Laing O'Rourke, paid tribute to the emergency services who attended the incident.
He added: "This is a tragic event and our thoughts are with the family of our colleague who has tragically lost his life and with those who have been injured."
The employee who died has not been named, while his injured colleagues have been treated and released.
The incident is a reminder of the importance of proper safety procedures on building sites and securing employers' liability insurance.
It is believed the explosion could have been caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder which was being used in fire suppression system.
