With Halloween mischief around the corner, it is important for homeowners and landlords to ensure their insurance policy is up-to-date, it has been claimed.
Figures from Norwich Union show that Halloween sees more incidents of malicious damage and vandalism than any other time of the year.
Rachel Stiles, head of home insurance for fairinvestment.co.uk, said many local authorities are providing downloadable posters to deter trick or treaters.
"Most importantly, make sure your insurance policy protects you against malicious damage, just in case you fall victim to a broomstick through the window or your garden gnome takes a walk," she added.
Defaqto has also warned of the risk of litigation due to children tripping on a driveway or suffering an allergic reaction to homemade treats.
Mike Powell of the company said people should make sure the liability clause in the buildings and contents cover is adequate, according to easier.com.
