UK pubs could soon be offering punters the option of drinking their beverages in glasses that contain two-thirds of a pint.

The proposal could be taken up by the National Weights and Measures Laboratory (NWML).

Third of a pint measures are legal, though they are no longer commonly used, reports the BBC.

A spokesman for the NWML said the body was consulting over specific proposal for the pub and restaurant industries over the introduction of new measures for draught beer, wine and cider.

The spokesman also said that proposals on food packaging published yesterday (October 24th) were "aimed at boosting consumer choice while giving more freedom to UK businesses to both respond to the demands of customers and compete on a level playing field."

The NWML exists to promote support fair competition and innovation, in addition to protecting consumers.

It is also responsible for implementing European directives on measuring instruments.
