This week sees a European-wide campaign to highlight the importance of risk-assessment in the workplace.
Organised by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, the week (lasting from October 20th to 24th) will see a number of activities aimed at identifying and recognising good practice, providing practical advice for employers and raising awareness.
Jukka Takala, director of the agency, said a worker within the European Union dies in a work-related accident every three-and-a-half minutes.
He added: "We have to make employers, workers, safety representatives and policy makers aware that proper risk assessment is the key to good workplace safety and health management."
Located in the Spanish region of Bilbao, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work aims to make workplaces throughout the continent safer places.
Among the advice they offer is the legal requirement of businesses to acquire public liability insurance.
