Conference to discuss corporate manslaughter legislation

Construction

16th October 2008

A special conference scheduled to take place next month will focus on issues surrounding the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act.

Organised by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa), the conference, entitled Managing Risks in Buildings and Public Spaces, will be held at Thomas Reuters in London on November 14th.

Maurice Webb, CIOB ambassador, said the growing importance of corporate liability meant no organisation can afford to be unclear about their legal obligations, which could also affect public liability insurance.

"All those who design, build, own and manage buildings and public spaces have a duty to ensure the safety of people, be they employees or members of the public," he commented.

Key perspectives to be covered at the event will include those of the health and safety authorities, directors, architects, designers and insurers.

The CIOB is an international body representing the building profession.
