The benefits of restaurant insurance have been highlighted after a fire in a London restaurant.

The River Cafe closed six months ago following a blaze. However, its owners were able to continue paying their staff while repair work was carried out, the Guardian reported.

Ruth Rodgers and Rose Gray commented on how their suppliers and restaurateurs rallied round to support them after the fire.

They were also able to use the money from their restaurant insurance to send their staff to cheese shops and fish markets for a better understanding of products.

"They didn't all go, 'Oh, wonderful, a paid holiday'," said Ms Rogers. "We decided that the most important thing was to use the time wisely, to come back and do it better."

In other relevent restaurant insurance news it has been reported on Canada.com that an insurer is looking for phone records of a man accused of causing an explosion in a Taco Del Mar outlet so they can process a claim.
