Safety concerns raised after worker falls from height

Health and Safety officials have sent out a warning to businesses about the dangers of working at height after a worker was badly hurt when he fell from a ladder.
Lakeside Container Services pleased guilty to breaching section two of the Health and Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and regulation 6(1) of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, reported the Thurrock Gazette.
The firm was fined £13,400 and ordered to pay court costs of £3,380.
As a result of the accident, the worker sustained a broken neck and required six months off work. He was also was forced to change his job position at the company.
HSE inspector David King commented: "What the figures don't reflect is the extent to which such an incident can affect individual workers and their families. It can lead to major injuries and a lifetime of disability, or extended time off work."
Companies can protect themselves by implementing proper safety measures in the workplace and taking out Liability Insurance cover.
