Commercial insurance

15th September 2008

The A6 is to receive new speed cameras, it has been revealed.

According to Garstang Today, the road - which last year was named as having the highest concentration in the country - will receive the devices after being named among a schedule of "community concern sites".

Locations for 15 extra speed camera have been named in Preston, while the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety plans to use build more in a further 81 locations.

Motoring experts have said that mobile speed cameras could be used more frequently.

Sheila Ranger, head of campaigns at the RAC Foundation, said the cameras are particularly effective in areas used by boy racers.

"We want to stop people speeding in the first place, not catch them doing it," she commented.

A senior lecturer at Liverpool University has suggested that speed cameras may only save half the number of lives than has been previously claimed, reported the Independent.
