The ongoing credit squeeze is not an excuse to avoid having a chipped windscreen repaired, motorists have been warned.
According to Kwik-Fit, avoiding such repairs could end up having more costly repercussions in the long-term.
Recent research found that more than ten million drivers have amassed about 15.4 million chips in their car windscreens and not bothered to have them repaired.
David White, Kwik-Fit customer services director, said in most cases having a chipped windscreen fixed would not affect a person's motor insurance.
He commented: "Even though money might be tight, theres really no reason to put off repairing a chipped windscreen.
"Motorists seem to forget that most insurers will repair a chip for free, but charge to replace the entire windscreen. So putting off repairs is clearly a flawed way of economising."
In related news, the Association of British Insurers has advised individuals to ensure their insurance policies match their particular circumstances.
