Know the law on private marine insurance

Many launching areas, harbours and water authorities expect to see proof of your marine insurance. Plus, you won't get an inland waterways license without sufficient insurance. Our helpful advisors will be happy to talk you through what you need, and to provide a quote for comprehensive or third-party insurance.

Extend your cover

All of the cover we arrange can include an uninsured loss recovery legal policy, as well as £3 million of third-party liability insurance. Depending on the policy you choose, you could also get:

  • Personal accident and medical expenses cover (at no extra cost!)
  • Protected no-claims
  • No loss of no-claims or deduction of policy excess if your boat is damaged in a marina berth
  • Cover for damage during boat-building 
  • Contents insurance for residential narrow-boats.

Need to insure a jet-ski?

We can arrange jet-ski cover with a number of benefits, including:

  • No need to name each person in charge of the jet-ski 
  • Road transit cover is included
  • Unlike many policies, the ones we arrange don’t insist on data-tagging
  • Cover can be extended to include the towing of water-skiers and inflatables.

Need to insure a power boat?

For boats with a maximum design speed in excess of 17 knots, cover is automatically included for:

  • Underwater machinery damage
  • Towing water-skiers and inflatables
  • Road transit on all boats up to 30’ in length.

Need to insure a charter boat?

We can arrange insurance for boats you hire out to customers. We can also offer ‘loss of income’ cover, which isn’t commonly available elsewhere (so if your boat is out of the water as a result of damage, you’ll be compensated for cancelled bookings). We also offer access to cover for bareboat racing charters.

Is your boat over 20 years old?

Most insurance companies request a survey report on older boats. However, if your boat is 23’ or under, and worth under £10,000, we only require you to complete a self-survey form—saving you the cost of a surveyor’s fees.
